Entry #290

That means 300 entries is slowly approaching. How scary.

Matt Tobey noticed that my site has been redesigned. So I'm giving him a link and a shout out to start this entry. I've noticed a few people have backlinked to my site. And for that, I thank them.

I'll get this out of the way before I dive into anything else. Many of you have been emailing kind words of support as I'm dealing with some pretty intense personal business. It is most appreciated and you have no idea how greatful I am to have friends like you in my corner. Honest.

Ohhhhhhhkay.

Up first, we have my review of the new Hawtin record. I'm was going to do a track by track analysis, but I don't want people changing the channel quickly. So I'll be brief. It's not the best Plastikman album ever, nor is it my all time favorite. YET. It's good, but the sort of thing that's going to require numerous listens to fully get my head around it. There's elements of every Plastikman record before Closer somewhere in the mix, much to Hawtin's credit it gives the album a really solid. unified feeling. It could easily be the follow up to any of the albums in the series. It's going to get alot of naysayers dogging it, but the level of enjoyment of Closer will depend on your reasons for listenin to Plastikman in the first place.

Second, the video is complete for the new release. "Middle of July"'s video was created by Jason Buchanan, using the track from "Call It Sleep". The video, as well as the rest of the dang release, will be on the Thinkbox site soon. Promise.

Third, Neal Pollack is running for the governor's seat in the state of California. I believe one needs $3500 and 65 votes to officially enter, and he's doing some fundraising on his site.

While the nostalgic 80s trend of electing Hollywood actors to political seats of power (ie: Cooter from the Dukes of Hazzard, Gopher from the Love Boat, Bono from Sonny and Cher, Paul Williams, Randy Newman) would align itself with the current 80s nostalgic revival we're facing, may I remind you that the last time an actor had a serious seat of power, Lee Greenwood wrote "God Bless the USA". History would dictate Greenwood writing another heartfelt American anthem, should this prophecy be fufilled. Please don't do this to me. Mosey on over to his site and make a pledge.

The other option? We've got Larry Flynt. That's pretty awesome too. I'm sure he'd clean everything up real nice and tidy. And I'm sure he'd finally be able to win over the hearts of the Bible belt.

I also find it awesome that Governor Davis himself is trying to get on the bill, so people could re-elect him after being recalled. That's some serious strategery in full effect right there. Yes, I said strategery.

Guest week will be happening once again 10 Aug - 15 Aug so I can get away and get some much needed rest and relaxation. I've got alot of catching up with life I have to do. Applicants can send their credentials in to the email address in the links page.
