Monday Monday here again...
This weekend was fantastic. All of those fortunate enough to attend the trifecta show of Telefon Tel Aviv, Midwest Product and Ectomprph were treated to an evening of outstanding beats, blips, boops and werps. The new Telefon set was gorgeous..no thanks in small part to the addition of Lindsay Anderson (of L'Altra fame) on vocals . Though I'm not sure the crowd knew entirely what to make of it. I think after the high energy set of Midwest Product the crowd was looking to continue that vibe, but Telefon chilled it out considerably. The sound quality (especially for the Magic Stick) was unusually crisp and the musicianship for all three groups really high. Expect good things from the new Ectomorph and Telefon Tel Aviv records, both due early '04.

A big BIG shoutout to Ypsilantian and Rephlex/Tigerbeat/Rewind/Twilight76/Databass/Throw/Spectral/Ghostly recording artist Todd Osborn, who (under his Soundmurderer alias) went up against the Bug for a soundclash during a Peel Session last week on BBC Radio One. While Peel's site inaccurately claims that the Bug won (simply because he brought MCs?), it is my opinion (which is of course totally biased) that Soundmurderer made the Bug his bitch for a good hour. The Bug was playing all sorts of mediocre dancehall shit which totally disrupted the full-on drumfuck (patent pending on word) Soundmurderer brings with his custom-made computer briefcases. I normally wouldn't say this...but the Bug brought WEAK and TIRED business. Soundmurderer mopped the floor with him. But you be the judge. Listen for yourself here.
For more information on Soundmurderer, visit his label Rewind.
And speaking of Ghostly, Matthew Dear's Leave Luck to Heaven is finally out. MD's had one hell of a year with releases on Perlon, Plus8 and Ghostly..but of course he saved the best for last. This is the crown jewel to a landmark year. The first single, Dog Days, has been toasted around town since this past spring but is being championed by club DJs world wide. Check out a sample here, and there's another sample here.
Oh, and there's a Homestar Runner CD coming out soon. Sweet.
