As many of you know, I really could care less about my appearance most of the time. Let's face it, in many ways I'm still stuck in 1993 when it comes to fashion sensibilites. And while I am perfectly content at times to stay this way, I will have to shorn off my obligatory uniform of jeans and a t shirt and one day don something sensible and fitting for someone of my age. Hopefully, this day will never come...but if it does, I should be ready.
I am making great strides with the next fourteen days. I am conducting an experiment with the worst part of my body: my teeth. I have the worst teeth in the universe. Worse than a Manchester dock worker or half of Scotland. My teeth are second to my gut as the worst thing about my physical appearance. And seeing as Crest doesn't make liposuction strips I have no choice in making my teeth the victim of this experiment. So for the next fortnight or so, expect nearly daily reports back on progress, complete with photos.
This experiment is taking place with a very special guest star and co-conspirator to my site, Ms. MacKenzie J. Wilson. She's a well respected music journalist whose work has appeared in several of the magazines you probably read.
Ready? Here we go.
DAY ONE
RT: After getting our photos taken with a digital camera, I went into the men's room and fumbled around with the little tiny plastic strip for a few seconds before placing them firmly around my teeth, according to the manual. The texture of these strips is very pastey and makes me feel very uncomfortable. But if this can get rid of the tinty remnants of a near decade long binge on soda pop, coffee, tea and various other stuff then it will be worth it. I realize that many of you are probably pondering and just thinking: do you go to the dentist? To which I answer affirmatively. But so far this all just feels weird, and I would be surprised if I make the entire 14 days.
MKJW: I've tried the rembrandt bleaching stuff on and off for the last four years. The crest stripes have a similar sensation. I find the crest white strips to be more convenient than the rembrandt set up of plastic impressions and the gel application... the initial try was awkward though: the strips ripped in spots. I was too afraid to drink anything.
