IAN LOVES THE KIDS

During my wild and whimsical teen years, I would have to say one of the biggest musical influences on me was Ian MacKaye and his work for Fugazi and the label he co-owned, Dischord. They proved that you could work outside the music industry's rules and logic and somehow still make it work. It's a mindset that still influences me to this very day.

While Dischord still seems to be going strong, Fugazi has taken a short recess from their plans to focus on other things in their lives. While that doesn't mean that they're breaking up (because they're not), it does provide with some interesting side projects. The one that has really thrown me for a welcome curveball is Ian's work in his new project the Evens. From what I can gather it's a stripped down two person group. I haven't heard anything much (yet), but certainly look forward to hearing some soon. But in the meantime, they did this amazingly catchy tune for Pancake Mountain -- a D.C. childrens show. It's about vowels, and you will be singing it for most of today.

Another update later on. Big thanks to Chris for pointing this link out. It's made my day.
