In an attempt to purge through all of things I've been listening to, here are several super brief descriptions. Purchase in confidence that all of these releases (except where noted) get my thumbs up. If that means anything to you.
And it probably doesn't.
Ready? Go!
GOUDRON- RAW VOLTAGE (Ersatz): Part one of two of a double whammy home run grandslam coming from the Ersatz audio crew due out May 18th. Ron Zakrin's debut is charming, funky, dark and makes for a perfect counterpart for...
TAMION 12 INCH- LET'S SUFFER (Ersatz): Early canidate for record of the year no doubt. One of the darkest records that I can remember that steers clear of excessive melodrama and brings on the field recordings of a neurotic meltdown already in progress. Don't sleep if you're an Ersatz junkie. These guys are just as good as their labelmates Adult..
MATT ABBOTT- HOMESICK (CD_R): As soon as this kid can get his shit together and start sending things to labels he's going to be a big one coming out of Detroit. This was recorded during his sabbatical in Arizona and it's at once melodic, charming and beautiful. Reminiscent of his earlier works where he was jacking the funkufen.
CHORE- 1994-1996 (Ypsilanti): One of my fondest memories as a HSer/Colllege guy was seeing these guys in a basement concert in Ypsilanti. A sentimental record, but essential for those who loved this period of local music. Straight up rocking and unapologetically emotional. It was Fred before he fell in love with Belle and Sebastian and Tommy Roe records.
T. LINDER- CUT/THRUST (Promo): This 28 Track CD mix surprised the shit out of me at how fucking good it really is. Hard edged classic angry industrial music mixed with classic Detroit techno tunes and some jack to boot. Perfect for screaming along to while driving I 94 in rush hour traffic. But not while in construction zones. Or at old people.
PASS INTO SILENCE- CALM LIKE A MILLPOND (Kompakt)- An average Kompakt record is still better than most top shelf ambient records on other labels. For Kompakt Pop Ambient fanatics only. The rest can just pick up any of the Pop Ambient series.
VLADISLAV DELAY- DEMO(n)TRACKS (HUUME)- I can't front. Delay could do a 30 minute composition made up of field recordings playing fetch with his dog and I'd say it's the best thing ever. After three listens today I'm ready to declare it his best work under his own name.
