RECOVERY: RETURN

*whew*

what an EXHAUSTING week. sometimes i hate short weeks, and with good reason: there's simply too much shit to catch up on.

a few not so quick announcements:

A 21 gun salute goes out to Joslyn Layne; AMG associate editor, frequent guest blog contributor and soon to be resident of the twin cities. Jazzlyn is leaving her post for warmer climates and sunny beaches that are in abundance in Minnesota. Either way, I wish her the best in her endeavours and hope she keeps in touch. I'm secretly hoping she'll slice off the head of Garrison Keillor and send it to me as a christmas gift, but that's being pretty wishy.

And another Detroit fixture is leaving the area to take a bite from the big apple. Derek Plaslaiko: long time Detroit electronic scene spark plug, world class DJ and former Hawtin road bitch is leaving to take up residency in Queens. While most New Yorkers will be under the impression that he is now a resident of their city and can claim him as their own, I'd like to take this moment to relieve them of this notion. Derek is always going to be a Detroiter, so get used to it.

Oh hell...and while we're at it: a goodbye in advance to Chris True. But he's not leaving for a few weeks so watch this space for a proper eulogy/send off.

A brief shout out to Rachel Von Bondie's guinea pig Petunia, whom I briefly met at Rachel's housewarming party. You might have read about this on Page Six.

Freman Hendrix has a very special announcement for you. Find out what it is...especially if you give a damn about Detroit politics...this afternoon at the North Rosedale Community Center (18445 Scarsdale) in Detroit from 5-6pm. Let's just say old Kwame's gonna have a handful to deal with if it is what I think it is.

What's more awesome than a Bill Cosby freakout? If you guessed a Kerry/Edwards ticket you'd be close, but the answer is watching Glen Danzig get his ass knocked down and deserving every second.

What's about ten thousand less degrees awesome than that? Syreeta Wright has passed away. For those unfamiliar with her, she was Stevie Wonder's wife and collaborator with Stevie on some pretty well known hits.

Okay. That's kind of a bum out. On to some uplifting news:

With all of these beer wars going on, I think Budweiser just got some ammunition to use if they really wanted to. Frighteningly enough, I had a few Miller Lites over the holiday weekend. Just another reason why I'm trying to stick to microbrews.

Do you like Motown? Of course you do. And that's why you are going to go and check out this super limited edition release by Hip-O. Sorely overlooked around this period of time (Motown was pushing other high profile artists and agendas at this point), David Ruffin's solo masterpiece never saw the light of day until now. The liner notes state it best "It’s the great David Ruffin in his prime, with Motown’s Funk Brothers band in full flower and the company’s producers and arrangers on their game" . Listened to it twice yesterday and I'm halfway through the day's first listen.

For those keeping score: Vernors won overwhelmingly in last week's poll. Thanks to all those who participated. I'm still thirsty though.

And finally (for now), Vladislav Delay has made pretty much his entire catalog available in mp3 form for downloading, somewhat inexplicably. Get your download on immediately before they're gone.
