I got my library card renewed today. Upon that notion, I promptly picked up five books on the Brooklyn Dodgers and began consuming knowledge on my favorite baseball team like Star Jones at Old Country Buffet.
I was about 150 pages into the first book when we finally got to when Branch Rickey was recruiting Jackie Robinson from the Negro Leauges for the Dodgers, and right when I flipped to that page and read his name for the first time...my housemate's computer started to play "Living For the City" by Stevie Wonder.
It's the sort of timing that seems like it only happens in theaters. But for me it was a moment of beautiful summer perfection.
