DNC 04 _PRE GAME WARM UP

Well friends and neighbors, this is it. The convention doesn't begin until tomorrow but the protests and parties have already started, so it makes perfect sense that I should start my coverage too.

Coverage you say? Why yessir. For the next four evenings I will be on our couch. A Diet Coke or Izze will loyally rest by my side and hopefully some company courtesy of the SSCO will be in full effect.

Bloggers have been credentialed this year, and Miss Wonkette might be on MTV, but I'll most likely be watching C_SPAN for wonk and hack free coverage. I might flip to CNN to see what Ole' Serpenthead has to say, but no one else really appeals to me at this moment. Okay maybe Russert, too. But that's it.

Anyways, here's a list of blogs that will be in attendance and blogging from the main floor. Of course you can always turn to the most excellent Talking Points Memo and 1115 for their analysis; which is worth more than most talking heads you'll see on TV. And of course, I'll be adding my armchair quarterback analysis to the stew of haphazard opinions.

Apparently there's a blogger breakfast to be had with the Kerry campaign. My invite must have gotten lost in the mail. That's okay. I'll dine with the Johns next time they're in town.

The talent for this year's DNC is marginal at best, and tepid at worst. Monday night will feature by Patti LaBelle, Gerald Levert and BeBe Winans.

Wyclef Jean, Brian McKnight, John Mellencamp, and the Black Eyed Peas will all perform on Wednesday, although unfortunately not at the same time. What a sonic car accident of awesome that would be!

Thursday night will feature performances by Carole King, Willie Nelson, and Mavis Staples. Once again, I can only imagine the soundclash of Carole and Willie dueting on "One Fine Day" or any other of Carole's smash hits. Mavis Staples, anyone?

There was talk on Fox News of Porchsleeper appearing, but those rumors have been greatly exaggerated. Hot off their smash performance at the Ann Arbor Art Fair (which packed Liberty Plaza to its hilt), the boys have decided bypass this year's convention and relax for a bit before recording their next LP.

Anyways, here's a complete list of speakers this week.

That's all for now. Tune in tomorrow.
